A New Perspective on Condensed Phase Quantum Dynamics by Gregory A. Voth Department of Chemistry and Henry Eyring Center for Theoretical Chemistry, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84112 INSCC 110, 3:30pm Monday, May 4, 1998 Abstract A new theoretical basis for the study of quantum dynamics in condensed phase systems will be presented. In this approach, quantum dynamical behavior is obtained through an approximate mapping involving classical-like trajectories computed on an effective classical potential. The underlying formal basis for the approach will be described, as well as its connection to the Onsager regression hypothesis. The algorithmic aspects of the theory will also be presented along with some applications.
