Title: Organizing a high school math circle

Abstract: In the mathematical training of many students, there is often a gap between high school coursework and more advanced college courses that encourage deeper mathematical thinking. In fact, during high school and college, many mathematically inclined students may have little exposure to the kinds of problems and approaches that mathematicians consider the essence of their subject. In partial response to this, a number of high school enrichment programs--"Math Circles"--have spring up around the country. The purpose of this talk is to describe some of those programs (and their histories), as well as to address practical issues associated with starting and maintaining them.
